What is a Gingivectomy?

A gingivectomy is a procedure related to the removal of gum tissue. This might be done because gum tissue has grown too far down the tooth or because a pocket has formed between the gum tissue and tooth so that particles become trapped within and it becomes difficult to keep the teeth clean. This is normally done after a thorough teeth cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from the mouth, which will help prevent infection.
