“I wanted to experience the joy of living and have positive thoughts again”

My Story

My name is Hongxin, affected with JAK2-V617F mutation establishes the diagnosis of a myeloproliferative disorder.

A 62-year-old man who was well until approximately 3 years  ago when I was developed increasing abdominal discomfort, early satiety, and weight loss of 10-12 kilogram due to poor appetite. I was highly concerned about my health at that time and rushed to different hospitals and doctors to assess and evaluate my  exact conditions.

After series of consultation and medication recieved, I was advised my family to consult cancer specialist in China and possibly overseas to second opinion. Biopsy was  done through needle aspiration at a leading hospital in Shanghai and JAK2-V617F mutation was confirmed. We came across mozocare and had visited Jaypee Hospital, India for further confirmation. That time doctors could not find any untowards or disturbing and asked me to continue taking prescribed medicines as usual. It is been three years since then I am managing myself through taking Aspirin and a few other immunity building medication.

What I learnt that, it is not just about taking medicines but how you manage yourself on day to day basis. You can manage yourself better by having a healthy lifestyle that also includes:

  • Maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Drinking enough fluid
  • Exercise
  • Relaxing (managing stress)
  • Getting enough sleep (7-9 hours per night for adults)
  • Not using tobacco or abusing drugs or alcohol

A healthy diet which may incudes:

  • Variety of fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Fat free or low fat dairy
  • Low fat proteins such as poultry or lean meat
  • Healthy oils like olive oil

Drink water, tea and coffee to maintain hydration. Consider decaffeinated beverages if you experience diarrhea or reflux as caffeine can make these symptoms worse. Avoid sugary drinks such as soda.

Discuss drinking alcohol with your doctor. I do not drink alcohol since discovering my diseases and after consultation with doctors.

Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It can reduce anxiety, fatigue and improve heart function and mental well-being. Gradually increasing your exercise levels, through low risk activities like short daily walks, can be the best method to start an exercise program.

Foods cannot be used to treat cancer, but some things you eat or drink and some actions you avoid can make a difference in your health and how you feel.

Hope this will be helpful to many fellow cancer surviors. If you wanto to speak to me for any information sharing, emotional connect and how I have been managing myself. You may request mozocare to arrange a forum. I will be glad to speak.

Thank you. God Bless !
