Overview

Urine retention is not a disease but a sign of underlying disease. The problem occurs when the bladder is not able to empty or when there is an obstruction or narrowing of the bladder. The weakness of muscles around the bladder also causes urine retention.

  1. Radiation therapy

– Exercises to manage urine retention

– Use of a catheter helps in bladder drainage

– Certain drugs are used to relax the bladder

– Surgery such as urethrotomy, cystocele, etc

– Empty the bladder in certain intervals

– Avoid caffeine, alcoholic drinks, and other beverages that irritate the bladder

– Keep your bowel movement healthy

– Avoid using any products that may irritate the bladder
